"Crystal Mill dressed in its autumn best. This old powerhouse from Colorado’s mining days sits above the Crystal River in a spot that already feels almost unreal—and then fall arrives and the aspens turn to pure gold around it. Standing there in person, it’s like the whole hillside is lit from within. For this piece, I used pen to hold onto the character of the weathered wood and rock, then layered loose watercolor washes to let the gold aspens glow and the river stay full of movement. I wanted it to feel like that fleeting moment when you know the color won’t last much longer, so you try to soak it all in."
